Student Bar Association Thanks Dean David Yassky for His Service

April 8, 2018 Student Bar Association

The Elisabeth Haub School of Law Student Bar Association issues this statement in response to Pace University President Marvin Krislov’s announcement that the Dean of Haub Law, David Yassky, will be stepping down.

The Student Bar Association thanks Dean Yassky for his unwavering dedication and involvement with the students at the Law School. Dean Yassky sought to build relationships with students on a personal level that went beyond the realm of academics. Many students recall times when Dean Yassky would sit down with them in the cafeteria to chat or strike up a conversation at the Welcome Back BBQ. When walking the halls, he would stop and talk with groups of students to check in with us, asking how our classes were going, and offering much-appreciated motivation and advice.

This past year, Dean Yassky organized campus-wide events to foster a meaningful dialogue among students, faculty, and the Pace community about current events. He hosted the Charlottesville and Free Speech panel in September and the Independent Counsel Robert Mueller investigation discussion in November, both of which provided a forum for all members of the Pace Law community to feel heard and respected. Last month, Dean Yassky organized a day-long Public Corruption Symposium with the Pace Law Review, again bringing scholars to the law school to engage students and speak on relevant and powerful topics.

Those of us who are graduating will remember Dean Yassky’s invaluable contributions to the Law School over the last three years, including the expansion of student programs, rise in post-graduate employment rates, and increase in national ranking. Many second and first-year students will also share memories of the Dean as their professor. As a student body, we will fondly remember Dean Yassky’s emails—from the serious to the lighthearted—that were often filled with life lessons far beyond what we learn in the classroom.

Dean Yassky, thank you for your dedication to the law school and the student body. We wish you the best of luck and look forward to your return to the classroom.
