Professor Peter V. Marchetti joins Haub Law as Visiting Professor, Bringing Expertise in Commercial Law, Business Law, and Bankruptcy Law

The Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University is pleased to announce that Peter V. Marchetti will be a Visiting Professor with the Law School for the Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 semesters. While at Haub Law, he will be teaching the following courses:  (i)Commercial Law: Sales of Goods; and (ii) Corporations & Partnerships.

Professor Marchetti is a Professor of Law at Texas Southern University’s Thurgood Marshall School of Law. Professor Marchetti’s teaching and research interests are in the areas of bankruptcy and reorganization, finance, secured transactions, commercial law, banking law, business associations, contracts, property law, and law and economics.  Before joining academia, Professor Marchetti worked as in-house counsel at WestLB AG, which, at the time, was an international commercial bank with world-wide operations. While working at WestLB, he worked on capital markets transactions (including swaps, other derivatives and repos), chapter 11 bankruptcy matters, and a wide variety of both syndicated and bilateral commercial finance transactions (including real estate lending, asset-backed lending, and project finance transactions). Before working at WestLB, Professor Marchetti was an associate at Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft and at Thelen, Reid & Priest in New York City. Prior to entering private practice, he served as a Judicial Law Clerk to the Justices of the Massachusetts Superior Court.  

“Professor Marchetti’s research, scholarship, and teaching in the areas of bankruptcy, commercial law, and beyond is significant,” said Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University Dean Horace E. Anderson Jr. “The Haub Law community is excited for him to bring his expertise to the classroom where his students will benefit immensely from his background in these areas.”

Professor Marchetti has published widely in top journals where his scholarship focuses on bankruptcy law, commercial law, business law, and finance, along with their intricacies.  Likewise, his scholarship focuses on new developments in these areas of law. Recently, his article Bankruptcy Remoteness:  A Summary Analysis (with many co-authors) was published in The Business Lawyer. Additionally, his article, Section 546(e) Redux—The Proper Construction of the Terms Financial Institution and Financial Participant Contained in the Bankruptcy Code After the U.S. Supreme Court’s Holding in Merit, was published in Cardozo Law Review.

"I am thrilled to be joining Haub Law as a Visiting Professor for the next year,” said Professor Marchetti. “I am passionate about teaching, specifically in the areas of Commercial Law and Corporations and Partnerships. I look forward to sharing this passion with the students and the Haub Law community.”

Professor Marchetti received his JD from Suffolk University Law School (magna cum laude) and his BS from Northeastern University.
