Pace University’s Elisabeth Haub School of Law announces that the Pace Energy and Climate Center (PECC) has been chosen to coach teams competing in the Solar in Your Community Challenge. The selection of PECC is the latest recognition of the Center’s leadership and expertise in finding solutions to today’s complex energy and climate change challenges.

The Solar in Your Community Challenge is a new $5 million prize competition from the Department of Energy’s SunShot Initiative that supports new solar energy project development. It aims to expand solar access to low and moderate income households; state, local, and tribal governments; and non-profit organizations. PECC will be among the coaches that support dozens of teams across the country with their technical needs, as they demonstrate innovative, scalable business and financial models that can open new solar markets that benefit these underserved communities.

“The Pace Energy and Climate Center has 27 years of expertise in working with key stakeholders to create better energy policies,” said Karl R. Rábago, Executive Director of the Center. “We are so pleased to coach teams in the Solar in Your Community Challenge and look forward to supporting these great projects.”

At the conclusion of the competition, a $500,000 grand prize will be awarded to the team that can most successfully demonstrate a scalable model to bring solar power to low and moderate income markets. Teams will also compete for an additional $500,000 in final prizes based on their achievements and their potential to scale up.
