Samantha Nicole B. Ladines (JD Candidate ’23) has been selected as a NYS Catalyst Public Service Fellow. She will be a Fellow at the Franklin H. Williams Judicial Commission this summer. The Franklin H. Williams Judicial Commission, is a permanent commission in the New York State court system promoting racial and ethnic fairness in the courts.

Samantha learned of the opportunity from the Center for Career for Professional Development at Haub Law. “When I found out I was accepted as a Fellow, I was ecstatic! The mission of promoting racial and ethnic fairness in the courts is crucial to not just the court system but to society as a whole. I am honored to be able to help in this mission. During my undergraduate studies, I focused a lot of my research on the effects of intersectionality and racial bias on court verdicts and being a NYS Catalyst Public Service fellow at the Franklin H. Williams Judicial Commission will allow me to continue this research and actively participate in important conversations that will help improve our court system,” commented Samantha.

“I hope to gain more insight on how the Commission tackles issues of diversity and race within the courts and what efforts are done to promote racial and ethnic fairness in the New York State Unified Court System and the legal community. I plan to take the tools I will learn from the judicial commission and implement them everywhere I go,” continued Samantha.
