Former Assistant U.S. Attorney Joins Haub Law as Distinguished Fellow in Criminal Justice
Pace University’s Elisabeth Haub School of Law announces that former Assistant United States Attorney Miriam (Mimi) Rocah will serve as the first Distinguished Fellow in Criminal Justice at the Law School. Ms. Rocah’s appointment is the latest step in the Law School’s expansion of its highly regarded program for aspiring prosecutors and criminal defense attorneys.
As a fellow, in addition to teaching and advising students, Ms. Rocah will arrange speakers, symposia and policy conferences on issues of current importance to practicing attorneys and policymakers in the criminal justice arena. She will join the Law School on October 16.
“At Haub Law, we have forged a distinctive program for students seeking careers in prosecution and criminal practice, with superior faculty, a strong focus on experiential learning, and mentorship by our large network of alumni prosecutors and defense attorneys,” said David Yassky, Dean of the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University. “Mimi brings an extraordinary depth of high-level experience to our ‘Path to Prosecutor’ program, and she will help deepen our engagement with practitioners and policy makers.”

In addition to Ms. Rocah’s appointment, Haub Law has appointed Adjunct Professor of Law Carol Barry to serve as Executive Director of the Pace Criminal Justice Institute (PCJI). The PCJI generates educational opportunities for Pace Law students and promotes interdisciplinary collaboration between scholars, policymakers and practitioners in and outside the Pace community. The Institute supports and encourages creative research, teaching, and discussion concerning the theory and practice of criminal law and makes legal resources available for those interested in advancing criminal law reforms and promoting the fair and ethical prosecution of criminal defendants.
Over the past 20 years, Professor Barry has led Haub Law’s prosecution externship programs, teaching and training many future prosecutors. Hundreds of Haub Law’s 8,000 alumni have served as prosecutors across the country. More than 20 members of the graduating class of 2017 went on to serve as Assistant District Attorneys in offices in New York State and beyond.

Funding for the distinguished fellow in criminal justice was provided by the Haub Programmatic Innovations Fund, a part of the transformational gift provided by the family of Elisabeth Haub in 2016.
Mimi Rocah
Ms. Rocah has been an Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of New York since February 2001. As an AUSA, Ms. Rocah successfully prosecuted and tried numerous cases including several high profile Organized Crime cases. During her career in SDNY, Ms. Rocah held a number of leadership positions including, most recently, Co-Chief of the White Plains Division, a position she has held since April 2012. In addition to supervising cases in the White Plains Division, Ms. Rocah also served as primary liaison with law enforcement agencies and other prosecutorial offices on matters relating to the White Plains Division and coordinated and co-chaired multi-county task forces on specific issues such as human trafficking. Prior to 2012, Ms. Rocah served as the Southern District’s Chief of the Organized Crime and Racketeering Unit, as well as Chief of the General Crimes and Narcotics Units. As a prosecutor, Ms. Rocah received numerous Department of Justice awards, most recently, the 2016 Women In Federal Law Enforcement Leadership Award. Before joining the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Ms. Rocah clerked for the Honorable John Gleeson, United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York, and the Honorable Chester J. Straub, United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. She also worked as a litigation associate at the law firm Cravath, Swain and Moore. Ms. Rocah graduated from New York University School of Law, magna cum laude and Order of the Coif in 1997, and with a B.A. in American History, magna cum laude, from Harvard University in 1992.
Carol Barry
Carol Barry was an Assistant District Attorney in the Trial Division of the New York County District Attorney’s Office from 1987-1995 under Robert M. Morgenthau, where she prosecuted cases involving domestic violence, drug sales, sex crimes and assaults. She also was the Supervising Assistant District Attorney for Pace Law School’s Prosecution of Domestic Violence Clinic in which students handled domestic violence cases from arrest through trial/disposition under a Student Practice Order. She has been supervising and teaching the Prosecutorial Externship Program at Pace since 1996 and the Honors Prosecution Externship Program since 2007 and also teaches legal writing to first year students in the required Legal Skills program. Ms. Barry received the Barbara Salken Outstanding Adjunct Professor Award in 2017.
