Instituted in 1989, the Jeffrey G. Miller National Environmental Law Moot Court Competition (NELMCC) is the largest interschool moot court competition of any kind under one roof, regularly attracting 200 competitors from law schools from all over the nation along with 150 attorneys who serve as judges for the three day competition. Highly competitive with tremendous educational value, NELMCC has established a national standard of excellence in moot court competitions. Each year the “Problem” presented to the teams focuses on timely issues of national importance to the practice of environmental law. Prior to the Competition competitors research and analyze the issues presented in the unique and complex environmental problem before writing persuasive arguments for one party (either the government, a public interest group, or a member of the regulated industry) advocating how the issues should be resolved. Competitors are then required to argue the issues orally for all three parties, rounding out the rigorous academic experience.

This year, the preliminary rounds for the 2019 Competition were held on Thursday, February 21 and Friday, February 22. Quarterfinal rounds were also held on Friday, February 22. The semifinal and final rounds were held on Saturday, February 23. The Competition is also interspersed with workshops for faculty coaches, career panels, CLE programs, a Pace Law environmental alumni event, and lunches. After the final rounds on Saturday, February 23, a reception and awards ceremony took place.
