Professor Camila Bustos, Scholar in Environmental Law and Human Rights, One of Four New Faculty Members Joining the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University
The Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University is pleased to announce that Camila Bustos will join its faculty as a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Law. Previously, Professor Bustos was a Visiting Assistant Professor of Human Rights at Trinity College and a Clinical Supervisor in human rights practice at the University Network for Human Rights. Bustos is one of four new faculty members who will be joining Haub Law this fall.
“I am thrilled to join the Elisabeth Haub School of Law and be part of its top-ranked environmental law program,” said Professor Bustos. “For decades, Haub Law’s faculty, students, alumni, and staff have been leading the way in environmental law. I am excited to share my work and contribute to this forward-thinking community.” Professor Bustos’s research and scholarship focuses on human rights law, environmental law, international environmental law, and climate change law.
Professor Bustos graduated from Yale Law School, where she received the Francis Wayland Prize and was a Switzer Foundation Fellow and a Paul & Daisy Soros Fellow. While at Yale, she co-founded the organization Law Students for Climate Accountability, which is a student-led movement that focuses on climate accountability across the legal industry. She also served as the co-chair of the Asylum Seeker Advocacy Project at Yale and the Women of Color Collective. After law school, Professor Bustos served as a term law clerk to Justice Steven D. Ecker of the Connecticut Supreme Court. Bustos received her BA magna cum laude from Brown University.
At Haub Law, Professor Bustos will teach several courses, including International Human Rights Law, Environmental Survey, and a Climate Migration Seminar. “I am thrilled to have Professor Bustos join our Haub Law community,” said Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University Dean Horace E. Anderson Jr. “Her work in environmental accountability, at the intersection of human rights and environmental law, complements our strengths in environmental and social justice. Professor Bustos’s research interests and advocacy background will enhance our Environmental Law Program’s leadership in this area.”
Professor Bustos’s scholarship has appeared in numerous law journals, including the Yale Journal of Law and Feminism and the Pace Environmental Law Review. Her forthcoming co-authored article, Climate Migration and Displacement: A Case Study of Puerto Rican Women in Connecticut, will be published in the Connecticut Law Review. She is a frequent presenter on human rights, climate law, climate ethics, environmental justice, and related topics.
