Stefanie DeNise

Education

Professor DeNise currently serves as the Principal Law Clerk to a New York State Supreme Court Justice in Westchester County. In this role, Professor DeNise conducts legal research, drafts opinions, decisions, and orders, and analyzes complex legal issues and questions for the Court. Professor DeNise also coordinates and supervises the Summer Judicial Internship Program for the Ninth Judicial District and serves as Editor-in-Chief of Ninthline, the Court’s electronic newsletter.

Prior to her appointment as Principal Law Clerk, Professor DeNise was an Assistant District Attorney at the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office for 13 years. In that time, she handled hundreds of criminal matters from intake to disposition. Professor DeNise conducted felony and misdemeanor jury and bench trials as well as Grand Jury presentations, hearings on pre-trial matters, and sentencings. She drafted several dozen search warrants and wrote wiretap papers for a narcotics investigation resulting in the indictment of 18 individuals. Professor DeNise was most known for her work in the Investigations Division where she handled complex fraud investigations including business email compromises, IRS and bail scams, wire transfer frauds, and sophisticated identity theft scams.

Many of Professor DeNise’s identity theft cases received media attention and she was interviewed by ABC, NBC, News 12 Westchester, The Philadelphia Inquirer, and Automotive News. Professor DeNise trained police officers, detectives, prosecutors, and those in the banking, retail, and automobile industries on the investigation and prosecution of financial crimes, identity theft, and fraud. She was a member of the International Association of Financial Crimes Investigators, the New York External Fraud Committee, and the District Attorney’s Offices’ Identity Theft Consortium.

While at the DA’s Office, Professor DeNise supervised interns, coached a mock trial team, and mentored new assistants on legal issues and trial practice.

Professor DeNise has always had a passion for teaching, and she became an adjunct professor at Berkeley College in 2018. During her 4 years there, she taught Criminal Law, Introduction to Justice Studies, Homeland Security, White Collar Crime, and Communication Skills for the Criminal Justice Professional.

During law school, Professor DeNise was an intern with the FBI, the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida, and a prominent criminal defense attorney in New York.

An avid writer and Journalism major, Professor DeNise has had articles published in the Miami Herald newspaper.
