Comparative Environmental Law (Brazil)

This course compares the environmental laws of the United States and Brazil. The course aims to build students’ capacity to assess the environmental laws of both countries, and to consider national policies concerning environmental quality. Students and faculty will travel to Rio de Janeiro and several other regions of Brazil to continue classes, and attend seminars conducted by prominent scholars and attorneys. Students also participate in field trips to the fragile yet crucial ecosystems of Brazil. This course requires students to write a research paper comparing some aspect of the environmental laws in both Brazil and the United States. Required: permission of the professor.
