Elisabeth Haub School of Law launches accelerated LL.M. program with Universidad Cientifica of Peru

Cientifica students may enter one-year Haub Law Master of Laws program while still earning their undergraduate LLB law degree

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (June 22, 2020) -- Elisabeth Haub School of Law is pleased to announce a new cooperation agreement with Universidad Cientifica of Peru in Lima to offer an accelerated Master of Laws (LL.M.) program.

The program provides the opportunity for Cientifica students to enroll as full-time students in Haub Law’s LL.M. program after completing all but one year of their undergraduate LLB law degree at Cientifica.

Cientifica students admitted to the Haub Law LL.M. program are eligible for a scholarship to apply toward tuition for the program.

“This special program and relationship furthers the joint interests of the two schools in providing practical training in an accelerated path to practice, and it builds a bridge between the United States and Peru leading to greater multicultural understanding,” said Haub Law Dean Horace Anderson.

The accelerated LL.M. program will allow students to share their varied experiences and training in areas such as sustainable development, conservation and many others. Haub Law’s Environmental Law program was ranked No. 3 in the nation this year by U.S. News & World Report.

“Universidad Cientifica is an outstanding law school with a world-class environmental program,” said David N. Cassuto, a Haub Law Environmental Law professor and director of the school’s Brazil-American Institute for Law and Environment (BAILE). “I look forward to many exciting collaborations growing out of this partnership.”

Dean Anderson announced the new LL.M. program today at Universidad Cientifica, which is hosting an International Environmental Law Week June 22-26. Haub Law Prof. Katrina Kuh will also be giving a talk, "Developments in Climate Litigation," during a virtual seminar on June 24. Andrea Brusco, Regional Coordinator for Environmental Law of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) will also speak during the seminar.

Cientifica General Manager Luis Javier Cardó Soria and Dr. Oscar Sumar Albujar JSD, the Legal Academic Director at Cientifica, were instrumental in helping establish the new LL.M. program.
