Basic Mediation Training

Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University Presents:

Basic Mediation Training

Haub Law’s Basic Mediation Training introduces participants to the practice of mediation. This 24-hour online course provides participants with an understanding of the skills needed to become a mediator through lecture, discussion, exercises, and simulations.

The training begins with an exploration of alternative dispute resolution options available to parties and goes on to review negotiation theories and strategies that come into play in ADR processes.  The training includes an in-depth analysis of the mediation process and the role of the mediator, including how mediators can prepare for mediation, cultivate trust in the process, address ethical and legal issues that may arise, and work to resolve impasse.

Instructor: Erin Gleason Alvarez is an adjunct professor and Director of the Mediation Practicum at the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University.  Gleason Alvarez also serves as an arbitrator, mediator, and negotiation consultant.  She is a member of the American Arbitration Association Commercial Arbitration and Mediation Panels, the CPR Institute Panel of Distinguished Neutrals, and the Resolute Systems New York and National Mediation Panels.  She serves as a Special Master for the Appellate Division of the New York State Supreme Court, First Department, a mediator for the Commercial Division of the Supreme Court of the State of New York, New York County, and a volunteer mediator for the Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts.

Prior to her work as a neutral, Gleason Alvarez worked as a litigator and later oversaw the Global ADR Program at AIG.  She regularly facilitates programs on negotiation, mediation, and arbitration before bar associations, corporations, law firms, and other organizations.
