We are pleased to announce that The Honorable Robert A. Spolzino has joined the Wilson Elser Moskowitz Edelman & Dicker LLP firm as a partner.

Justice Spolzino is a Justice of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of the State of New York, Second Judicial Department. The Appellate Division is New York's intermediate appellate court, second only to the Court of Appeals in the state's judicial hierarchy. The Appellate Division, Second Department, has the largest jurisdiction, in terms of state population, of the appellate court in the State of New York and of the United States.

Justice Spolzino was designated as a Justice of the Appellate Division by Governor George E. Pataki on April 16, 2004 and was re-designated as such by Governor Eliot Spitzer on January 1, 2007. He was elected to a fourteen-year term on the Supreme Court of the State of New York in 2001. Prior to his tenure on the bench, Justice Spolzino was a partner in the White Plains office of Wilson, Elser, Moskowitz, Edelman & Dicker, LLP. While in private practice, Justice Spolzino also served as counsel to various governmental and private clients. His primary areas of practice were municipal, environmental and land use law. Justice Spolzino had previously served as a confidential law secretary to Appellate Division Justice Leon D. Lazer and to Westchester County Court Judge Kenneth H. Lange.

In 2005, Justice Spolzino was appointed by the Chief Judge of the State of New York to the Matrimonial Commission (the "Miller Commission"), which was created to examine and recommend reforms with respect to the divorce litigation process in New York. He had previously been appointed by the Chief Judge as a member of the Commission to Promote Public Confidence in Judicial Elections (the "Feerick Commission"). He currently serves on the New York State Advisory Committee on Bar Admissions and the Committee on Gender Fairness for the Ninth Judicial District. Prior to his designation to the Appellate Division, Justice Spolzino was the Supervising Judge of the Matrimonial Parts in Westchester County, in addition to his responsibilities as a trial justice.
