Pro Bono Justice Program

Haub Law is dedicated to contributing to the achievement of a more just society through professional education, legal scholarship, and service to those in need. Central to this mission is the Public Interest Law Center’s vibrant Pro Bono Justice Program, which offers a range of concrete opportunities for Pace law students to assist underserved people, organizations, and communities.

The Pro Bono Justice Program enables Pace law students to gain valuable legal skills while responding to the community’s most pressing needs through pro bono projects and internship opportunities. Specific projects address legal and social problems including housing insecurity, domestic violence, debtor/creditor issues, and more. Internships are available in a full range of nonprofit organizations and government offices in areas including environmental justice, civil rights, civil legal services for the poor, and criminal justice.

The Public Interest Law center regularly sends out volunteer opportunities for students, and hosts trainings in conjunction with partners to prepare students to do pro bono work. Below are descriptions of just a few of the exciting programs Haub Law students are working on. Follow the links below for a list of current pro bono volunteer opportunities.

Legal Services of the Hudson Valley Pro Bono Housing Project
LSHV’s Pro Bono Housing Project seeks to provide representation, assistance, and advice to tenants facing eviction and related housing emergencies in the Hudson Valley. Pro bono attorneys and law students provide virtual advice and limited scope services to clients remotely.

Courtroom Advocates Project (CAP) at Sanctuary for Families
The Courtroom Advocates Project is a pro bono initiative that trains and supervises law students to serve as advocates for domestic violence victims seeking protective orders in family court. CAP provides student advocates with a unique opportunity to experience hands-on client contact while providing critical pro bono legal services.

LiveHelp at LawHelpNY
LiveHelp seeks to increase access to free legal information written in plain language on LawHelpNY.org and help vulnerable New Yorkers solve their civil legal problems. Neither LiveHelp nor LawHelpNY give legal advice but rather, LiveHelp Operators connect people with relevant legal information, DIY forms and referrals to legal service providers.
