               Pace Moots

Moot courts are attracting attention as more law students in the US and abroad seek to gain honor, experience, and professional exposure by playing a key role in a moot court. Moot courts give law students opportunities to research and litigate advanced hypothetical problems, compete with a team against other student attorneys, and receive professional feedback on their performance by peers, faculty, and the moot court itself.

Pace Law School sponsors and participates in a number of moot courts.
Advised by Professor Lou Fasulo and other faculty members, Pace students participate as litigators in moot courts sponsored by legal associations and law schools in the US and abroad. For moot courts sponsored by Pace, students create the hypothetical legal problem and serve as moot court judges. Students are selected via an application process to participate in moot courts.

Pace Law School's National and International Moot Court Competitions:

International Criminal Moot Court
Pace Law School is proud to initiate the International Criminal Court Moot Competition. The Pace ICC Moot is the first-of-its-kind event, open to the international law school community, and bringing together disparate legal traditions in the context of a simulated case before the International Criminal Court. The competition offers each team of students the opportunity to participate in three rounds of oral arguments, representing the Prosecutor, Defense and Victims’ Advocate.

The Pace National Environmental Moot Court Competition
The National Environmental Moot Court Competition is America's preeminent moot in the environmental law area. Each year, more than 100 Pace Law students serve as hosts to jurists and competitors. Arguments are presented to a "Federal Court of Appeals", comprised of federal circuit judges and judges from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Appeals Board.

Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot
Held in Vienna in the spring, the Vis is the premiere international commercial law moot court, attracting students the world over. Sponsored by Pace Law School, the moot involves an arbitration of a contract of sale between two parties in countries that are signatories to the United Nation's Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods.

The Pace International Student Essay Competition
An annual event, the Pace International Student Essay Competition on uniform international commercial law has over the years attracted responses from scholars from thirty-three countries.  Certificates of Merit are awarded to talented students and faculty mentors.  Pace has historically stressed the importance of legal writing.  The essay event is designed to foster superior legal writing at every institute of higher learning.
