Louis A. Craco
Chairman, NYS Judicial Institute on Professionalism in the Law
Louis A. Craco is chairman of the New York State
Judicial Institute on Professionalism in the Law, having been
appointed by Chief Judge Judith S. Kaye upon formation of the
Institute in 1999. Previously, from 1993 to 1995, he had chaired the
Chief Judge’s Committee on the Profession and the Courts, which had
recommended, among other things, the creation of the Institute.
Mr. Craco practiced for 47 years with Willkie Farr & Gallagher in
New York City, where his practice centered on business litigation and
arbitration and he headed the Litigation Department for 25 years. Upon
his retirement from Willkie Farr & Gallagher, he became Of Counsel
to Craco & Ellsworth, a firm established by one of his three
lawyer sons. He is active as an arbitrator in international and
domestic business disputes.
In 1982-1984, Mr. Craco was President of the Association of the Bar of
the City of New York. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial
Lawyers and of the American Law Institute and a Life Member of the
American Law Institute.
Mr. Craco graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester,
Mass., and New York University Law School, where he was a Root Tilden
Scholar.
