Welcome to the inaugural issue of "The
Briefcase," the monthly e-newsletter from the Pace Law School Center for Career
Development (CCD). Each month we will highlight a topic or event as
well as bring you news about what has been happening in the CCD and what
events and programs are coming up in the next month.
18th Annual Public Interest
Career Reception
On
Thursday, August 30th, Pace Law students, together with Rachel Littman,
Assistant Dean, Stephanie Golden, Associate Director, Nicole Moncayo,
Director of Recruiting and Pace Law School Representative to The Metro Area
Public Interest Advisors Group, attended the 18th Annual Public Interest
Career Reception at the Association of the Bar of the City of New York
(affectionately known as The City Bar) in midtown Manhattan. This event
enabled us to continue and expand our networking and recruitment efforts
within the public interest, environmental and government sectors.
Fall Recruiting and Other
Programs
We
are beginning to wind down our very busy and successful fall recruiting
period. We have added some terrific new employers to our recruiting
programs: Metropolitan Life Insurance Company; Fried, Frank, Harris,
Shriver & Jacobson LLP; Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler LLP; Farer
Fersko; the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Honors Program; and
Allen & Overy. Please log onto Symplicity for further details about
these and many other employment and fellowship opportunities.
We
also presented the following well-received programs: separate
orientations for first year, upper level, and LLM students; Intensive
Interview Prep Workshop; MasterCard Mentoring Program; and the Fulbright
Scholarship Program (with Prof. Greenawalt). We have additional programs
scheduled for this semester (see the column at the right) and many more in
the planning phases.
Evening Student Tables
Stephanie
Golden, our Associate Director, Private Sector and Judicial Clerkships,
manned (or, more accurately, "womanned") our first Evening
Student Drop-By Counseling Table in front of the law school cafeteria on
September 26 from 6-8pm. A counselor will also be on hand at the table on
the following dates from 5-8pm:
October 10; October 22; November 6; November 15; and December 3.
Spotlight on Summer Positions
This
month we highlight what two Pace Law students did this past summer.
Their experiences range from private practice immigration work in New York City to an externship
with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Office of
General Counsel for Fisheries as part of the Pace Law School Washington,
D.C. Environmental Externship Program. These students represent not only
the diversity of summer positions available to Pace Law students, but the
variety of practices, geographic location and types of employers that await
you in your next summer job!
