Ira L. Herman

Ira L. Herman is a partner in the Corporate Reorganization and Creditors’ Rights Section of Thompson & Knight LLP. He has an extensive creditor’s rights practice, including representing lenders, investors, indenture and bond trustees, vendors, and court appointed committees. He regularly serves as a mediator with regard to commercial and bankruptcy law matters and provides advice concerning corporate governance matters to the managers of financially distressed businesses. Additionally, he has regularly been called upon to address insolvency law issues relating to securitized transactions and has been counsel to numerous chapter 11 debtors.

Mr. Herman has taken leadership positions in the New York State Bar Association, the New York City Bar, the American Bankruptcy Institute, and the New York City Bankruptcy Assistance Project (NYC BAP), where he serves on the Steering Committee. He recently was honored as an “Empire State Counsel” by the New York State Bar Association and as an "In-Court Champion" by the NYC BAP. He regularly lectures and writes on bankruptcy law issues. He is admitted to practice in the New York state and federal courts, Texas, and the U.S. Second Circuit Court of Appeals.

Mr. Herman received his JD cum laude from Boston University School of Law and a BA in Political Science from Yeshiva University.
