Lectures and Events
Throughout the year, Pace Law School
students and
faculty gather for numerous co-curricular events focusing on current issues in
environmental law. Some of the programs include:
The Environmental Alumni
participate in a welcoming reception for first year environmental
students each fall. The event offers students a chance to meet the
environmental faculty and to hear from Alumni of the program, currently working as
environmental lawyers.
Pace Law School hosts the annual Lloyd
K. Garrison Lecture in Environmental Law. A nationally recognized leader
evaluates current issues and trends in a scholarly address. The Lecture honors the pro
bono publico contributions of Lloyd K. Garrison, who was the attorney representing the
citizens in the Storm King litigation that helped launch environmental law.
Pace University School of
Law established the Gilbert
and Sarah Kerlin Distinguished Professor in Environmental Law
Lecture to expand the School’s programs of research,
education, professional and scholarly activity and publications in
environmental law, a field for which Pace has received national
and international recognition. The Kerlin endowment funds also a
named professorship at Pace in Environmental Law. Professor
Nicholas A. Robinson, founder of the Law School's environmental
programs, was named the Kerlin Professor in 1999.
Earth Day features
celebrations at Pace Law School. The student leaders of the Pace
Environmental Law Society annually organize a festive spring event, attended by regional conservation
leaders, students, faculty and friends. Music, games, a picnic, fund-raising for
Pace Law School Public Interest Law Scholarships and a day of good cheer celebrate the public's commitment
in 1970 to strengthening environmental protection. The Environmental Law Society
additionally holds events throughout the
school year, including brown-bag lunches, and frequent presentations by LL.M. students on
scholarly topics.
The Pace Environmental Law
Review
holds periodic colloquia on important
environmental issues.
