Pace Law School Names Simpson, Thacher &
Bartlett Attorney New Assistant Dean for Career Development
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y.,
February 22, 2005 –
Maja D. Hazell, a senior associate at Simpson, Thacher &
Bartlett in New York City, has been named the new Assistant Dean for
Career Development at Pace Law School, effective February 28, 2005.
Among her duties will be career counseling of
students and alumni and fostering links to employers and legal
communities across the country to expand career opportunities for
students and alumni.
“Maja combines deep knowledge of the law firm
world with drive, intelligence, and real warmth,” said Dean Stephen
J. Friedman. “She is a wonderful addition to Pace Law School.”
At Simpson, Thatcher
& Bartlett, Hazell practiced in the labor and employment litigation
and executive compensation and benefits groups. She worked extensively
with partners serving on the recruiting and diversity committees and
with the firm’s Recruiting Department to improve recruitment and
retention of associates and interviewed hundreds of law students for
recruitment to the firm.
Before that she
clerked with the firm of Fulbright & Jaworski LLP in their
Washington, D.C., office, the National Labor Relations Board in
Washington, D.C., and the New Haven, Connecticut Legal Assistance
Association. She has worked on numerous pro bono matters in the areas
of labor, employment discrimination, employee benefits, housing and
family law.
Hazell received her
BA in English from Yale University and her JD from Georgetown
University Law Center. She developed and implemented numerous student
programs involving academic and career guidance at both Yale and
Georgetown, in conjunction with the Dean’s Office and Admissions
Office of both institutions and the Office of Career Services at
Georgetown. She is a member of the bar of the states of New York and
New Jersey, the federal courts of the southern and eastern districts
of New York, and the district court of New Jersey, and argued as a law
student before the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals. She also is a member
of the American Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association,
the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, and the National
Association of Law Placement.
Founded in 1976, Pace Law School is a New York Law School with a
