Seth A. Davis is a partner in Elias Group LLP, in Rye, New York, co-chairing the firm’s environmental and energy practice since 2004.  He handles a wide variety of environmental issues arising out of a wide range of corporate and real estate transactions, regularly represents responsible parties in site remediation and cleanup negotiations, and counsels corporate and individual clients on compliance with all the environmental statutes.  Previously, Professor Davis was a partner in Huber Lawrence & Abell in New York City for 12 years.  Prior to his return to private practice, Professor Davis practiced environmental law in the law departments of Revlon, Inc. and the Celanese Corporation.  During the more than 30 years he has specialized in the area, Professor Davis has worked in just about every area of environmental, health and safety law.  He has taught Environmental Law in Commercial Transactions at Pace since 2003.

Professor Davis is recognized as one of the country’s leading specialists in Superfund and hazardous waste site remediation, and in counseling clients on environmental aspects of corporate transactions.  In his practice, Professor Davis provides advice on a variety of environmental issues to clients in utility, chemicals, manufacturing and real estate fields. He regularly counsels clients on the effect of environmental regulation on business and real estate transactions such as mergers, acquisitions, and sales and refinancing of real property, and represents clients in environmental enforcement proceedings and cleanup activities. He often conducts environmental audits and due diligence reviews for transactional purposes, and counsels corporate clients on development of environmental programs.

Professor Davis is Vice Chair of the American Bar Association’s Section of Environmental, Energy, and Resources Law (“SEER.”)  He will become Section Chair in August 2016.  Prior to becoming Vice Chair Professor Davis served as SEER’s Publications Officer, served a three-year term on the Section Council, and chaired SEER’s Committees on Site Remediation, and Environmental Transactions. and Brownfields.  Professor Davis received his J.D. from Harvard University in 1975, and his B.A., Summa cum laude, in 1972 from Wesleyan University, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.

Professor Davis is Chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals for the Village of Croton-on-Hudson, where he resides.  He was previously Chair of the Village Planning Board, and has often been called upon to provide special environmental counsel to the Village.  For ten years he directed Destination Imagination, the world’s largest creative problem-solving competition, for the Eastern Region of New York.  He can often be found following his diverse passions at Yankee Stadium, Lincoln Center, and Saratoga Race Course.

Professor Davis is painfully aware that, no matter what else he accomplishes, he will be remembered for being a 4-time winner on “Jeopardy!” in 1991.
