Eco-Markets & Trading (LAW 797L)
This course emphasizes practical market-based, non-regulatory approaches to solving environmental problems in today’s economy and the requirements of a successful trading program. Students will examine the relationship among market forces, emission trading, environmentally compatible technologies, regulation, and how such approaches reduce pollution emissions. Students will also explore the concerns of emission trading, including methods of pollution reduction, whether emission trading contributes to the overall reduction of pollution, and ethical and environmental justice issues raised by permit-trading regimes. Trading precedents under the Clean Water Act, the Clean Air Act, and other environmental statutes will be explored.
